بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
Alhamdulillah,
One of the most important qualifications and merits that the sahaba of rasulAllah (peace be upon him) had, was first and foremost the name sahaba.
Sahaba means, they met and believed in the Messenger while he was alive peace be upon him. Another merit of the Sahaba was that they participated in blessed ghazawat, many passed away as shuhada and their status is known.
However there were a special ten sahaba, who were promised Jannah while they were alive as testified by rasulAllah peace be upon him.
Below is the list and the supporting ahadith that cite the same.
These are the authentic 10 who were promissed Jannah
as testified by rasulAllaah
We bear witness that the ten who were named by the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and who were promised the Garden by him, will be in the Garden, as the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, whose word is truth, bore witness that they would be. The ten are:
- Abu Bakr,
- `Umar,
- `Uthman,
- `Ali,
- Talha,
- Zubayr,
- Sa`d,
- Sa`id,
- `Abd al-Rahman ibn `Awf,
- Abu `Ubayda ibn al-Jarrah.
Whose title was the Trustee of this Community, Allah is pleased with them, and they are pleased with their Lord subhanaahu wa ta’ala.
[Aqeedah Tahawiyyah]
Sa’eed Ibn Zayd رضي الله عنه testified that the Prophet said:
“Ten people will go to paradise. The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم will go to Paradise; Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه will go to Paradise; ‘Umar رضي الله عنه will go to Paradise; ‘Uthmaan رضي الله عنه will go to Paradise; ‘Ali رضي الله عنه will go to Paradise; Talhah رضي الله عنه will go to Paradise; az-Zubayr رضي الله عنه will go to Paradise; Sa’d Ibn Malik رضي الله عنه will go to Paradise; and ‘Abdur Rahman Ibn ‘Awf رضي الله عنه will go to Paradise.” Sa’eed رضي الله عنه said should people ask him he would name the tenth. They asked and he answered, “Sa’eed Ibn Zayd رضي الله عنه,” and added, “The participation of any of these men once in a campaign with the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم which raised duse to his face is better than a whole lifetime of your work, even if you lived as long as Prophet Nooh عليه السلام.”
[This hadeeth has been recorded by Abu Dawood, Ibn Majah, and at-Tirmidhi who has rated it as saheeh. Abu Dawood, as-Sunnah, 4649, 4650; at-Tirmidhi, al-Manaqib, 3748, 3757; Ibn Majah, al-Muqaddamah, 134; Ahmad, 1:1; al-Hakim, al-Mustadrak, 4:440. It is authentic]
at-Tirmidhi has also recorded the hadeeth reported by ‘Abdur Rahman Ibn ‘Awf that the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said:
“Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه will go to Paradise; ‘Umar رضي الله عنه will go to Paradise; ‘Ali رضي الله عنه will go to Paradise; ‘Uthmaan رضي الله عنه will go to Paradise; Talhah رضي الله عنه will go to Paradise; az-Zubayr Ibn al-‘Awwam رضي الله عنه will go to Paradise; ‘Abdur Rahman Ibn ‘Awf رضي الله عنه will go to Paradise; Sa’eed Ibn Zayd Ibn Nawfal رضي الله عنه will go to Paradise; and Abu Ubaydah Ibn al-Jarrah رضي الله عنه will go to Paradise.”
[at-Tirmidhi, al-Manaqib, 3748; Ahmad, 1:193; al-Baghawi, Sharh as-Sunnah, 3925. The hadeeth is saheeh.]
This hadeeth has also been recorded by Imam Ahmad رحمه الله in his Musnad. The hadeeth which Abu Bakr Ibn Abi Khaythamah رحمه الله has recorded has the name of ‘Uthmaan رضي الله عنه before the name of ‘Ali رضي الله عنه]
Note: That of the Ten Promised Paradise, Two of Them are considered as disbelievers by the Shia Rafida. Look at the Irony, Allahul Musta’an.
May Allah allow us to join the names mentioned in these ahdith in the eternal gardens of bliss, created for true believers.
